Private sessions for single-handed and double-handed (Spey) casting instruction in Smithers and surrounding area, BC. $80/hour, max 2 participants. Equipment can be provided, however it would be best to bring your own gear as that is what you will be fishing with, and we can make sure the line is well-suited to the rod.
Private one-on-one fly tying instruction and group sessions for friends, clubs, or corporate events. Tailored to your skill level, interests, and schedule. Vises, tools, and all material provided. Contact for pricing.
Classes
Drop-in fly tying classes at Oscar’s Fly & Tackle. Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30.
Beginner-Intermediate. $15, materials supplied.
What started off as an introduction to fly tying class has turned into drop-in sessions every Tuesday. We tie a different pattern or two every session, each time working on different techniques, understanding fly design, and building better flies.

Intermediate-Experienced. $15, materials supplied.
Every Thursday we are engaged in more elaborate fly tying, working on one or two patterns per session.
Message me if you plan on attending and whether or not you’d like to borrow a vise and tools. It is encouraged that participants bring their own equipment if possible.
Workshops
Weekend Spey Course
Smithers, BC
Covering everything for the beginner, from equipment and proper rigging, to fishing the swung fly, to double-handed (Spey) casting using today’s versatile, Skagit lines.
The bulk of the course will be on the water, learning casting techniques for both sides of the river, diagnosing casting faults, and fixing common errors.
Class size is limited to 6 participants. Rods, reels, and lines can be provided, however we recommend you bring your own gear in order to become more comfortable casting it, and we can make sure the rod is properly lined. We will have a supply of RIO lines on site to dial in your rods and experiment with.
Hot fire lunches provided.
